Book of the Week: Cassandra's Angel

Cassandra's Angel

"No one can make you feel inferior without your consent."
- Eleanor Roosevelt

This week's book is Cassandra's Angel, a beautiful story about a girl who thinks nothing she does is ever right. The book starts out with Cassandra playing around while her mom is furious that she did not clean her room. Cassandra is not happy with this, no she is not. The torture does not end there-she then deals with a group of kids who refuse to play with her because of the way she looks. At school, her teacher sends her to the principal's office for not following the rules. When she decides to take her problems to the mayor, he is too busy to think of a small child.

Cassandra runs and runs, anger built up inside, when she finds a beautiful angel standing under a tree. The angel helps Cassandra realize that, no matter what people say, she is a special girl. She learns that you shouldn't listen to the negativity of someone's remark, for in the end, all that matters is what YOU think of yourself.

Poetically written by Gina Otto, and accompanied with beautiful illustrations by Trudy Joost, Cassandra's Angel lets everyone know that no one has the right to make you feel worthless.
