Tomorrow night at 7:30 EDT / 4:30 PDT the team of sisters behind We Share One World will go OnlineWithAndrea to discuss what went into creating this multicultural book. Written by Jane E. Hoffelt and illustrated by Marty Husted, We Share One World follows a young boy on his adventures around the world, meeting people from all sorts of different countries and cultures. The beauty of this book is that it emphasizes the unity of humanity while simultaneously embracing differences.

Christine Hurley Deriso, author of Dreams to Grow On, was recently featured by her local newspaper for talking to students about the craft of writing:

"I always wanted to be a writer, and from the time I was old enough to write I was always making up stories," Deriso told the students. "I got a journalism degree, thinking that it's still writing stories, just ones that are true. The thing about writing for fun, sometimes the ideas aren't flowing and you get stuck, but when you have a newspaper job you can't get stuck. You don't have the luxury of writer's block, you have to write when you're on a deadline whether you feel like it or not. So that job got me in the habit of writing every day."

The talk was part of a series at the school called Lunch and Learn. According to the program administrators, the goal of the series is "to get students thinking about their career plans."

This sounds like a perfect pairing for our author, whose book helps children--girls especially--think about all the different career paths that might be open to them.
