Haruna Amemiya
Japanese Ambassador:

Haruna Amemiya joined illumination Arts as an intern in January 2014. She has now become the Japanese ambassador for Illumination Arts and Inspire Every Child, a non-profit children’s Foundation. She took this position over from Asako Miyakawa, our previous Japanese ambassador, who was an international student at Bellevue College in 2013. Haruna is studying her major, Intercultural Communication, at Dokkyo University in Japan. She is interested in the publishing industry and will be seeking positions in this industry upon her graduation.  

Haruna is currently writing articles about women’s sexual harassment in order to hopefully change the current situation in Japan, which continues to victimize women.

                              Meet the Staff
John M. Thompson

      John began his eclectic career as a Certified Public Accountant. Named the Outstanding Graduate in the Business Department at Washington State University, he earned an M.S. Degree in Accounting from Arizona State University. Following a business career that included forming a CPA practice as well as business/real estate acquisition and operation, he joined with Marisa Lovesong to launch Illumination Arts in 1987. After publishing two metaphysical titles, they decided to specialize in children's books. John serves as CEO of Inspire Every Child, a charitable foundation which provides inspiring children's books to kids in need. A sports-energy consultant and practitioner of several healing modalities, John joins his wife Prema Lia in teaching energy-healing workshops (visit: He can be contacted at:
Ruthie Thompson
Editoral director,emeritus:

      Illumination Arts is truly a family affair. Ruthie Thompson is our Editorial Director and John’s mother. A retired librarian of Kelso High School in Kelso, WA, she now works from her home office in Longview, WA. Ruth graduated from Whitman College with a degree in English Literature and took all the theatre courses they offered. Her thespian talents have won her many awards for both acting and directing. Ruth’s husband was the principal at R.A. Long High School in Longview. “I have four wonderful children, including John, for whom I still work at age 96,” Ruth says. "I also have six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren."
Prema Lia (Kim)Thompson
Office Administrator: Volunteering to help our children and the future. 

      Originally from Southern California Prema Lia is an author of three books: Home is in Your Heart, The True Love of Aphrodite and Hercules, and Dancing with Mother Earth.

Prema Lia has a Ministerial Bachelors Degree in Holistic Theology and a background in community media, where she wrote, produced and hosted community access television and radio programs in Northern California. While living in Sacramento, she launched her children’s dance company, Creative Expressions. This company facilitated programs where children were able to perform their dance recitals on community television and senior centers.

An ordained minister (non-denominational), Prema Lia teaches educational and healing modalities, including Essential Oils,Herbology, Soul Retrieval work, Soul channeling, and Native American drum journeying. As a workshop coordinator for both children and adults, she utilizes these modalities when coaching individuals to connect with their true inner selves. She and John now offer a 2-day workshop called Soul Awakening.

Breanna Powell
​Lead Designer:

      A graduate of Central Washington University with a B.A. in English Literature, Breanna joined Illumination Arts in July 2013, where her talent for design was soon recognized. She began by designing ads for A Home Run for Bunny, but her technical expertise in Adobe Photoshop and InDesign propelled her on to redesign award-winning book, Wings of Change. Other projects include designing and doing all design functions for two full-color children’s books published by clients of Illumination Arts. Breanna enjoys writing and editing. She also works for a local school district, helping to nurture the intellects of middle school children and sharing a love of reading.
